Meet The Simplifarians

by | Aug 6, 2020 | Simplify My Life

Welcome to The Simplifarians blog!

A home in the cloud for anyone who has ever dreamed of a simpler life…

We’re Laura and David, founders of this little piece of web real estate, and we’re happy to admit we’re simple folk.

Or rather, we’re Simplifarians— people who believe happiness is found in a simplified life. But definitely not a boring life…

We run a business helping people simplify their lives, homes and businesses so they have more space, time and freedom to focus on what matters. You can find out more about what we do over here.

Way back before we started this website and business, we often found ourselves jumping into people’s lives and businesses to help ease their load.

They were friends who needed help downsizing their business premises from two locations to one… Family members who’s garages were so full of clutter they couldn’t fit their cars in… Total strangers who needed last-minute housesitters when they had to dash interstate for a funeral… And colleagues who’s businesses had grown too fast and needed help hiring staff before they burnt out.

The only reason we were able to drop everything and step in to help simplify their lives is because we’d already done so much to simplify our own.

Our Simplified Life on Wheels

Over the past decade, we’ve simplified to the point where we have no debt, hardly any bills, no house, no furniture and very little in the way of material possessions.

We live in a converted bus, a tiny house on wheels, so our home can be wherever we park it. We also work online so we’re not tied to one location. Our home office travels with us wherever we go.

We buy most things we need secondhand and donate or sell them when we’ve finished with them so they don’t weigh us down. We also increase our productivity by outsourcing anything we can’t or don’t want to do ourselves to free up our time to do the things we’re good at, or which can generate an income for us.

Up until we bought our house bus and the pandemic hit, everything we needed could fit into one suitcase each.

We travelled the world endlessly, living between Tonga, Nepal, Australia and France and wandering through countless countries in between.

We also have no children, no pets and no one relying on us so we’re in a better position to help people who do.

That’s why it’s easier for us to up sticks and go wherever we’re needed most. When people find out how we live, they often comment that they’d love to have more freedom like this but don’t know where to start.

The Simplifarians on wheels in our house bus named Maurice.

They ask us, “How do you do it?”

How do you live with so little?

How do you know what to keep and what to get rid of?

How do you let go of sentimental items?

How do you sell things online?

How did you stop impulse buying?

How do you outsource jobs to other people?

How did you clear your debt and get rid of your bills?

How do you downsize your life to fit into a bus?

And how do you both live in a mini bus without killing each other?!

Our aim is to use this blog to help answer some of those questions.

Simplifying does not mean having to live without

The truth is, we’re probably an extreme case of minimalism and not many people want to live the way we do.

If you want a simpler life, but not quite as simple as ours, there are plenty of ways you can apply some of the same principles to ease the load for you.

So you don’t have to work so hard…

So you have more space and time to enjoy life…

So you have less stress and more downtime to relax…

That’s what we hope this blog will bring you. In addition to helping our clients downsize their homes, declutter their space, and delegate the tasks on their to do list, we’ll be blogging here with tips and tricks for how to simplify our lives.

And I say “our” lives because we’re still a work in progress over here. When it comes to simplifying, there is no end point. Simplifying isn’t a goal for us. It’s a way of life with no road map or text book to guide us forward.

So we don’t always get it right and we don’t have all the answers, but we’re happy to share what we’ve learnt and what we discover along the way.

If that sounds like something you’re interested in, you can like” us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram or scroll down to join our mailing list below to stay in touch.

If you want to be a Simplifarian too, we’d love it if you stay connected and come along for the ride. We’re not entirely sure where we’re going but isn’t that how all the best adventures start?
